CBD is short for cannabidiol (can·na·bid·i·ol), an ingredient naturally sourced from hemp plants that are bred for nutritional purposes and contain only trace amounts, 0.2%, of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).
Because CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, the production of CBD has been somewhat controversial. Despite the evidence that CBD is entirely legal and safe for consumption, it does not have psychoactive effects like THC, people still often believe this treatment to be complicated and find it difficult to grasp. That is completely understandable, especially upon learning that CBD has contradictory side effects.
The “endocannabinoid” system is an integral part of our neuro-immuno-endocrine network. This is the system of organ and tissue signaling in the human body that sends and receives chemical messages and affects many aspects of human health including mood, pain, inflammation, stress response and immune function.
Our bodies produce their own cannabinoids—endocannabinoids—primarily anandamide and 2-AG (2-arachidonoylglycerol). A phytocannabinoid or plant-derived cannabinoid like CBD can activate the same receptors in the body and have similar or stronger effects than our endocannabinoids. This is similar to how morphine derived from the poppy plant can reduce pain by activating the body’s endorphin receptors. In summary, there are many different ailments you can take CBD for and there are many different ways of taking CBD.
Our CBD comes from hemp flowers grown legally on organic farms in the European Union. CBD products are legal to consume throughout Europe and many other countries worldwide without a prescription. All Karma Coast products contain 0% or less than 0.2% THC.

The combination of delivery method and amount of CBD will produce a different effect, which may vary from individual to individual. The first step is to decide on the CBD delivery method. In general, we recommend following guideline below:
- Vaporizers are the fastest acting delivery method but will produce a shorter effect length. Vaporizers are great for wellness seekers who need immediate relief.
- Tinctures provide a convenient middle-ground, in terms of duration and speed of absorption. The CBD is ingested both sublingually as well as through your digestive system.
- Capsules take more time to work since it is absorbed through your digestive system and will result in a more subtle but sustained effect. They can be used like a supplement to conveniently incorporate CBD into your daily practice. For some customers, it can take up to two weeks of daily use to experience the full benefit of CBD capsules.
- Topicals are ideal for targeted relief of localised aches and inflammation. Our CBD Balm is a popular product for muscular and joint pain, as well as various skin irritations.
It may be a bit daunting when you first start adding CBD to your wellness regime, but you will quickly find out what works for you after a bit of trial-and-error.
Recommendations for individuals depend on their body weight, physical condition, and age. Therefore, the right recommendation depends on your individual need and your body’s response to CBD. Generally suggested guidelines for a healthy individual are 10-30 mg CBD daily, however, we always recommend adjusting until you find your optimal dosage level.
We always recommend consulting with a medical professional when considering CBD for specific ailments and medical conditions, or when already taking prescribed medication.
